I was so sad when I read Cieldequimper's and Halcyon's comments on yesterdays post featuring one of the lighting fixtures on this beautiful building (now extinct), that I went searching for more photos. I found a few of the outside and the inside. Here's one taken from Pont Neuf.
Cieldequimper gave me the first clue when she said, "It used to be a favourite of my Gran's and I have many fond memories there. To answer your question, it's now closed - forever." (Oh, no!)
Halcyon filled in the bad news: "Sadly the Samaritaine was closed due to asbestos. It would have cost too much to refurbish. I hope someone salvaged those lamps though. They are nice. I used to like to go to the top floor and have a coffee and enjoy the view."
Does anyone else have memories of this historic and beautiful landmark?

That is so sad! It was such a gorgeous building! I did see it many years ago when I lived in Europe. Thanks for the memories as well lovely reflections. Have a great weekend!

What a shame, it is such a beautiful building. Have a great weekend.
I used to go and have tea there with my Gran. That was before I ever had a camera (I was 10 when I was given my first Kodak camera. I just googled Kodak and can't find the name...)
The view from the restaurant up there was great!
Oh darn! This was one place we missed and it was on my "to do" list for when we went back!
I do have a night photo of it somewhere...I'll have to find it and post it on Paree...
Very sad indeed but I'm always glad to see pictures of Paris. This brings back memories and thoughts of my future trip.
I seem to have lost a lot of photos from when I lived in France. :( I will keep looking to see if I have a view photo from here.
I think the building is still there, the store is just closed b/c they could not risk more people being exposed to the asbestos. But it may have been demolished since I lived there. Not sure. :(
A magnificent building. I hope to visit Paris one day...
