Strange Gold

Fort Stevens State Park, Oregon ~ November 1, 2014

The evening colors were gray and pale, and I wondered if I would get any photos I liked. Yet we waited in the cold until the sun was lost beneath the horizon. Unusual things can happen when light enters the camera's lens, and this strange gold was unexpected.

The Bridge in Green

Astoria, Oregon ~ March 12, 2014
The Astoria-Megler Bridge

I feel like I've posted this somewhere already, but it may have been on the Astoria Daily Photo Facebook page, which I have given over to Rich Kraft so I can find time for this blog and other activities. This is one of the first photos where I noticed that I enjoyed looking at a wider, shorter image. The reason? When you enlarge it to full screen on my laptop, which has a screen wider than it is tall, I feel like I'm inside the image. I could have made this image larger, though. I was just getting the hang of it.

Beautiful Owl

Seattle, Washington ~ May 5, 2008
Spectacled Owl (Pulsatrix perspicillata)
Woodland Park Zoo

We had been to see the tapirs as usual, and as we walked down a path toward another part of the zoo, we encountered a volunteer, Libbie Mistretta, with the most beautiful owl perched on her hand. She was introducing passers-by to this spectacled owl, which can be found all the way from Mexico to Argentina. I love the detailed snowflake-look of the feathers in front of its eyes. I posted a photo of this same owl earlier.
