Viewing the Ancient Roman Mosaics

Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina, Sicily ~ April 28, 2004

This photo gives some idea of how visitors can view the murals and mosaics up close without damaging them. There appeared to be a thin layer of mud or dirt over most of the flooring, although the few of the images were in more intense colors. The tiger shown in this photo on my Animal Art Along the Way blog is not particularly bright, but the lifelike animal mosaics simply astounded me.

Ooh, it's beautiful!

If they need a floor washer, I can volunteer. :) (It wouldn't be the first time to be on my knees washing a mosaic.)

How beautiful! I was just in Sicily in May, but only made it to Taoromina. There are some shots on my travel blog if you're interested.

PS: Finally settled in Toronto in my own home with my own internet! And back to blogging full time.
