On a Magical Winter Day

December 26, 2009 ~ Bend, Oregon

On December 26, 2009, freezing fog in Bend turned trees and plants into a frosted world where everything seemed quiet and time stood still. I've heard from Lee that the same thing happened today in Bend. A Chain in Ice at Nancy P's

The ice was beginning to melt as we left Nancy P's restaurant after having breakfast. You can see bubbles still trapped in the ice, as apparently the chain had warmed in the sun, and water was trickling down between the metal and its icy casing.

Highway 26 between Bend and Portland

The weather and sky were oh, so changeable as we crossed the high desert, skirted Mt. Hood, and dropped down into Portland on New Year's Day. Much of the time we were literally chasing a rainbow, but at this moment the blue sky and shredded cloud were what caught my attention.
