"Taphophile Tragics:" Drive-by Cemetery #3

February 4, 2006 ~ Near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Last week Julie at Taphophile Tragics mentioned my penchant for "drive-by" cemeteries. I had to laugh, because I already had another one in mind. This isn't it. I got lucky and stumbled upon this one a few minutes later. At least this one is in focus. And in color!

Next week? Maybe another drive-by.

Sailfish from Mexico

Mexico ~ Sailfish on a Postage Stamp

Stamp collectors may note that someone (yours truly) has carelessly slashed the stamp between the picture and the perforations. It wasn't out of meanness, but many of the stamps I've saved over the years are for use in the collages I've enjoyed making since 1968, when I discovered that I liked this art form. I've saved bits, images, and whole magazines to play around with when the mood strikes. This stamp was left out of some collage I was making at the time, but saved in the "collage box," and when it came up again, I was thinking "Animal Art" blog.

Dinner at Sunset

Sunset and Lamp, Puerto Vallarta Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ~ February 2, 2007

At this hour, the glass lamp needs no flame. But do enlarge the photo. It's much better, I promise.

Humpback Whale and Baby

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ~ February 3, 2007

Today's animals are also in a traffic circle, or perhaps more of an intersection, I don't remember. They were much harder to photograph than yesterday's deer. I apologize for the cluttered photo, but every time I come across it in my archives, I want to include it. I loved seeing the nice whales in such an unexpected location. Maybe someday I'll get back there to take a better picture. Or if you have one, maybe you will e-mail it to me :) Someone got some different angles for this page. (Scroll down to the bottom.)

The Bunny and the Armadillo

Oaxaca-style Armadillo and Rabbit Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ~ February 3, 2007

"The Bunny and the Armadillo" sounds like the title of a story, but it's not as far as I know. These are two of the delightful Oaxaca-style animals that enlivened the open-air hallways of a hotel in Puerto Vallarta. Because it's Easter today, one might imagine that the armadillo looks like a decorated egg.

King angelfish

Off of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ~ February 2, 2007

The water was murky, but the king angelfish with their blazing yellow tails hovered in abundance. The snorkeling guide had brough bread to feed them, so there was a lot of commotion over who got the goodies.
