That's a BEAUTY! I wonder if this is the cacti fruit my aunt used to make this awesome jelly when she lived in Arizona. I don't remember seeing this when I was there at her place at the ripe age of 13, nor in later visits.
Thanks. It was quite a spot of color on a gray day. The gray desert light was kind of nice before the storm. I imagine your aunt may have used prickly-pear, which is a whole different cactus. I don't know much about it, but I've heard of people making things out of the prickly-pear buds or whatever you call them. They're reddish and about the size of a lemon, and on a different shaped cactus. I think this is a barrel cactus. Maybe we need an Arizonan to tell us.
